Novel Novice Fan Spotlight....

PHINECIA'S STORY:

Ok well it all started when I moved to Texas in February. My kids were driving me crazy so we went to Walmart to get out of the house and do some necessary shopping. While there, my two girls (age 10&12) went to look at the book section. My oldest (Pearl) brought back Eclipse and said she really wanted it. I asked what it was about and she said, "Vampires." She is really into the whole vampire thing. I just rolled my eyes and said, "Fine if it keeps you busy, we'll get it." When we got home, I got a call from my mom. We started talking about books, as is normal for our conversations. I told her about this Eclipse book I bought for Pearl. She freaked, "Oh my gosh! That's the third book in the series and you can't read it without reading the first two,Twilight and New Moon." She made me promise to buy the first two and read them all in order.
My 50 something mom doesn't usually get excited about books unless they are really good. She's read thousands of books so she knows her stuff. The next day I went to the local book store and bought Twilight and New Moon. I read the back and wasn't all that impressed. Then I thought I should read them in case Pearl or Jeanine(my 10 yr old) had any questions. I homeschool my kids so I normally read EVERYTHING they read and we discuss books in detail. So I started reading Twilight and wasn't all that impressed. The first few chapters were like blah whatever. Then when Edward saves Bella from the accident, I started getting really into it. By the infamous meadow scene, I couldn't put it down. I literally did NOTHING for 3 days while I read the entire series. My husband had no clean clothes, no dinner, no one to talk to, but he did get the bed to himself. I stayed up till 4 or 5 reading myself to sleep on the couch. When I finished Eclipse, I almost cried. There is NO WAY that can be the end. There has to be more. So I went online and researched Twilight. That is when I found all those Twilighters out there just like me. I was especially fond of TwilightMOM's because of their opening statement which said something to the effect of "you're not the only one who hasn't done laudry, cleaned the house, or cooked dinner." As I continued researching, I found (to my relief) that there was a 4th book but I would have to wait until August of this year to read it. Then I found out there was a movie being made and I about jumped through the roof. My husband just gives me "that look" whenever I gush about Edward or anything to do with Twilight. He has said he will go to see the movie with me once and watch the kids the other 100 times I go. How's that for compromise?
I have read hunderds of books in my 31 years of life but NEVER have I read a book more than once or recommended a book to complete strangers. Stephenie Meyer has changed all that! I read the Twilight series 4 times and am on my 5th time through. We go to the book store weekly and whenever I see people looking for something to read, I ALWAYS suggest the Twilight series. I even warn the people to not have anything to do because once they start, they may not be able to stop. SO that's my story and I'm stickin to it;-)

Your story sounds so familiar. I also homeschool, and these books have become a big part of our family.

Roxie,
Sadly, my husband is NOT a reader unless it's a gameing magazine. He says that if it's a good enough book they will eventually make a movie that he can watch. SOME MEN! LOL!

Phinecia I loved hearing your story, I think reading these kinds of stories do their bit to make the Twilight community stronger.
